Something Old, Something New

October 19, 2010 1:42 am · Posted by sassysweetheart

How freakin' awesome is this skirt?!  I paid a visit to some local antique shops and found this vintage real leather beauty for $14.  I am sooo in love with it.  Actually, I am in love with this entire outfit.  It is a size 4, but is so tiny that it feels like it was made for me!  The shirt was purchased at Target for $7.  I don't think I've loved two pieces together this much EVER!

This look definitely has a vintage vibe to it.  The silhouette of the skirt.  The pearls.  The lace.  When wearing vintage items it is important to add modern items so you don't look like you stepped out of a 50's magazine.  The pearls are vintage-inspired, but the layers and layers of them make them a modern statement necklace.  The feather earrings and statement heels complete it!  I am defintely NOT a minimalist!

Shades Of Grey

September 24, 2010 9:45 pm · Posted by sassysweetheart

I love a monochromatic look!  The key to pulling it off, is by doing different shades of the same color.  It is best to use neutrals like grey and brown.  An all yellow ensemble will just make you look like a banana...or Big Bird!

This outfit is all kinds of comfortable!  Super soft pants...kind of sweatpant-like, a slouchy tee, and a tailored boyfriend blazer that pulls it all together.  I am LITERALLY obsessed with slouchy sweat-like pants.  They are the best thing EVER!  Once you try them, there is no turning back!

Ahhh, nothing I love more than a deep pocket I can sink my hands into!

I usually like to be drenched in accessories, but I wanted to stay with the simplistic nature of the outfit.  This Y shaped chain necklace is simple but adds a little pizzazz!  Sometimes, less CAN be more!  Sometimes... :)

Cargo Frenzy

See how happy I am now that I don't have massive roots anymore?  After 6 hours of sitting in a chair with enough foil on my head to aquire a satellite signal, I became blonde, blonde, blonde!  It's a little lighter than before, and I'm likin' it!

Judging from the name of this post, you can probably guess that I'm obsessed once again.  Cargo skinnies are super cool!  Of course, adding a frilly shirt gives this outfit the feminine touch it needs.  I don't want the cargos to give off the construction worker vibe!  Although you don't really catch any construction workers wearing tight skinnies.  That would be rather frightening...how on earth would they move around?

As you can see, I'm having a little too much fun...

These leopard Kathy Van Zeeland shoes are going to carry me through fall, winter, spring AND next summer!  They are great for this hot weather, but I am especially excited to wear them with tights and a skirt when it gets cold!

FYI this is not my car.  It's actually a car parked in front of a house where no one lives.  There are tons of spider webs on it!  I was a little freaked out, but thought it would make for a cool picture.

Berry Burst

My favorite dark skinny jeans paired with a silky, berry colored blouse and neutral blazer!  My job does not require me to dress up, but I like to be comfortable, casual and professional at the same time.  This is the perfect mix of all three!

This is the first time I have worn this necklace, and I have had it for months.  It is a really interesting color.  I couldn't figure out what to wear with it and then A-HA!  A burst of berry went perfectly!

I must apologize for my protruding roots.  Surprise!  I'm not a natural blonde!  Wha-wha-whaaaat?  Haha!  Is anybody anymore?  I have a hair appointment this weekend, so I promise they'll be gone soon.  Now you know why I've been wearing so many hats! ;)

Im Blue Da Ba Dee Da Ba Di...

I’m blue da ba di da ba di…Anyone remember that song?  Or am I the only one?  It was pretty awesome and weird all at the same time!  Kind of like this outfit!

If there were ever a pair of pants to make me feel happy, these would be the ones.  I cannot begin to explain how comfortable they are.  It's like pajama pants for day time!  They make my legs have a party, they are so soft!  I just might do a little jig...in celebration of my new pants!  Don't worry, I am only joking.  I would not traumatize you that way.  There will be no pictures of me getting my boogie on...EVER.

Even though I could talk about these pants all day, we must move on.  This (fake) leather jacket I have been dying to wear, but the heat has prevented me.  In the spring I had searched far and wide for a short sleeved leather jacket and found it at Burlington Coat Factory.  I love the little ruffle sleeves...makes it a little less biker chick.

I don't know what we did before all these amazing shoes started popping up everywhere.  Gladiator sandals, studded heels, shoe booties!  They hardly even make simple, plain shoes anymore.  The statement shoe is definitely a work of art!  I have always been a shoe girl.  When I was about 5 years old my mom took me to the swap meet.  I fell in love with these gold sandals (I think they made them to play dress up) that were bejeweled to the nines!  I insisted on wearing those things everywhere!  So you see, some things never change!

Not-So-Denim Skirt

July 26, 2010 2:08 pm · Posted by sassysweetheart

Denim skirts always remind me of when I was 19 and strutting around in Hollister mini skirts. A fun time in my life, but not something I would want to wear now (at age 27... I know, I know... I look like I'm in high school). But alas! There IS a way to wear a denim skirt that is a little more mature or work appropriate. Unless you're are a rockstar (even though we would all love to be one) please don't wear jean mini skirts to work!

This skirt is made by Kensie, usually sold at Macy's for much more than I would spend on a single item, but I scored it at Burlington Coat Factory for 14 bucks! Oh yeeeah! It is actually not denim, but chambray, which is soft and wonderful! Chambray has the appearance of denim, but is so much lighter! Perfect for hot summer weather! You could definitely remove the blazer, trade the heels for sandals, and wear it on a shopping trip. Wear a sparkly top and big earrings, and you are date-ready! This skirt even works in the colder months. Pair it with some tights and ankle boots to keep your legs warm. Then add a sweater with a military jacket, and maybe even a scarf! Ahhhh the choices! I love an item that is so completely versatile!
