The Short Of It

October 22, 2010 12:55 am · Posted by sassysweetheart

Since it has been raining a bit where I live I have been drawn to my hat collection a lot more frequently.  My hair turns to an awful, frizzy, mess in the rain and I would rather just avoid it altogether!  Not only that, but I am starting to get roots again!  Almost time for another hair appointment!

So what do you think of shorts with tights?  I love it because it enables you to wear shorts when it's cold!  It opens up so many more style options the colder months.  When I first wore shorts, tights and heels I felt a little hoochie (are people still saying that?) but when I asked my husband, he said it looked nice.  He is always my gauge in hoochie-ness!  I can always count on him for the truth!  I don't think he wants his wife parading around in booty shorts!  Heehee.

Grey and green is my new favorite color combination.  My husband actually wore some grey shorts and a green shirt the other day (by my suggestion).  He originally thought it didn't match but I explained to him that grey is a neutral and basically goes with anything!  You would think that being so into fashion, that I would want to style everyone I know!  Believe it or not, I don't normally pick out my husband's clothes!  I just throw in little suggestions here and there!  I tell him "You know sports, but I know fashion!"  To each his own!

How amazing is this purse?  It is Nine West and I got it at Marshall's for $15 because the clasp was broken.  I fixed it!  I love deals like that because a lot of damaged items are fixable!  You just have to make sure that it is worth the discount.  In this case I saved about $15.  Totally worth it!

Just being silly.  Seriously, I look so ridiculous when taking pictures of myself.  Just me...by myself...with a tripod...jumping around.  Ahhh the humiliation.

More silliness...

Tell Me About It...Stud

October 20, 2010 12:28 am · Posted by sassysweetheart

It is completely and officially cold outside where I live!  No more random days of 95 degree weather I hope.  In all actuality, we are never really happy with the weather.  We always want it to be what it is not.  I'm sure I will soon be ranting about how I am sick and tired of wearing tights and jackets everyday!  But as of this moment, I am reveling in it!  There is nothing like the fresh air after the rain.  I don't care for the rain, but the aftermath...YES!

Oh my, I could not WAIT to wear these boots.  They are one of my favorite purchases for fall.  Only $25 on Overstock.com and free shipping!  They may still have them if you want to snag a pair for yourself!  The camel color is DIVINE and kind of rare.  I haven't seen many boots in this color before.  And you know I love anything with studs!  I give these boots an A++!  They are great to just throw on with an oversized sweater and leggings or tights with a skirt!  Soooo versatile.  Ok, I have a question for you all...Does anyone else tuck their jeans into their socks when wearing boots?  I always feel like a giant dork if I am trying on shoes in a store and have to expose my "jeans tucked into socks" look.  I always kind of hide my feet so no one sees.  Haha.  I just hate when my jeans bunch up over my boots, and socks seem to hold them in place!  Just one of my weird thoughts...

Monterey Bay

September 7, 2010 9:43 pm · Posted by sassysweetheart

Here are more pictures from my vacation in Nor Cal.  We took the 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach, which is completely gorgeous!  There is so much wildlife there: sea otters, seals, sea lions...I am such an animal lover.  We explored the tide pools and walked the beaches.  It was perfect!

We came across these beautiful trees that made for a perfect photo-op!  I accidentally stepped in poison oak...from my past camping adventures I should have known better, I was just not paying attention!  Thankfully nothing happened to my feet!

Our last stop before heading home was Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey.  We enjoyed amazing seafood, saw tons of jellyfish swimming, and came across this sea lion basking in the sun!  My husband snapped a quick photo...I was scared it would jump up and come after me!  They are not friendly creatures if they are bothered.

We witnessed a beautiful sunset on the drive home.  Now back to reality and back to the warm weather...yearning and waiting to be able to wear my fall clothes again.  That was just a tease of jackets, scarves and boots.  I am still counting down the days and watching the temperature drop!

Coral Craze

I love this tiered blouse so much it doesn't need much else.  It was too big when I bought it, (only $6.99 at DD's Discounts) so I took it in on the sides.  If the cut is right, a tiered blouse can be flattering on most body types.  The layered effect camoflages anything you may want to hide!  Just don't buy it too tight...it should float off the body.  An A-line shape is best.  I like to tuck most of my shirts in,  but you could also wear it untucked and belted at the waist.

Coral is such a universally flattering color.  It just looks good on every skin tone!  Along with coral is other shades of orange, teal and other shades of blue, and most shades of green.  Jewel tones and saturated colors are extremely beautiful and flattering. I know that a lot of people are afraid to wear bright colors, but you really don't know what you're missing!  They can really be used to your advantage, to bring out your best features.  Anyone can just wear black all the time, so don't be afraid to stand out in a crowd!

I am a great offender of getting stuck in a color rut.  I will get obsessed with one color, and everything I buy starts looking the same!  How many black blazers do I really need?  Jeez!  Okaaay...you can never have enough black blazers!  Bad example.  Taking pictures of my outfits every day has actually helped me mix things up.  You all motivate me to keep things different and interesting, so thank you!  Go you!

I feel like these two pieces don't really go together, but somehow it works!  I was insistent on wearing this shirt today and the skirt was kind of an afterthought.  If you have trouble choosing your daily ensemble, pick one piece to base the rest of your outfit around.  When I have a hard time finding something to wear, the aftermath is brutal.  My bed and floor will be covered with mountains of clothing, shoes, jewelry, and other random things.  It is horrendous and NOT fun to clean up.

This outfit is easy breezy, and gives off the impression that you're not trying too hard ("I try really hard, actually" hee hee! ). There are so many different things going on in it, and they all seem to contradict one another.  The frilly skirt, old man hat, preppy sweater, statement necklace, tough girl boots...that's what I love about fashion, the possibilities are endless!

Alas!  I have finally purchased a tripod, which I am ecstatic over!  (Thank you hubby!)  It was looong overdue, so I hope you enjoy the new and improved photos.  There are so many cool places where I live to take some nice pictures, and I look forward to sharing them with you all!  I am DEFINITELY no model or photographer, but I am always looking for new ways to improve this site.  Your feedback is greatly appreciated!  So here it goes...

This little romper I bought last summer, but still feel the love for it!  I actually wasn't even sure I liked it after purchasing, but I ended up wearing it many times.  Don't you just LOVE when that happens?  It also goes great with tights and a black blazer for the colder months.  Versatility is my friend!

A cool white blazer dresses it up a little, but with the sleeves rolled up of course.  I always roll the sleeves up on a blazer.  Long sleeves always feel too stuffy!

I'm With The Band

The Fedora Project Part 3...

I don’t know what it is about this hat, but I am utterly obsessed with it!  It kind of makes me feel cool, mysterious, and put together, all at the same time!  Every time I wear a fedora, you know who seems to like it the most?  Little old men!  It’s so completely cute.  I think it reminds them of their day when they used to wear them.  Sometimes, they will tell me, “I have that same hat at home”!  I don’t know whether to laugh or cry!

This outfit I wore to a singing gig with the band that I am in.  The event was a wedding and we had a rockin good time!  The colors we had to wear were black and white, which can be difficult to make look interesting.  I love the combination of these masculine and feminine pieces.  It creates a look that's not too precious!  This dress from H&M I've had for a couple of years and have worn it for so many different occasions.  It has pockets on the sides, which adds a little curve to my shape.  If you are curvy and don't want to add more to your hips, avoid side pockets.  They add extra weight and attract more attention to your hips.  If you need a little extra oomph like me, side pockets create that hour glass shape that you desire!  Any detail on your clothing like a ruffle or ruching is going to accentuate the body part it is on.  So if you have things you want to hide, avoid details that draw attention to them!

Opposites Attract

The Fedora Project Continues...

They say that opposites attract in relationships, but how about clothing?  Definitely!  This outfit is where punk and prissy meet!

I don't always have an agenda or specific item I am searching for when hitting the stores, but this time I did!  I was on the hunt for the girliest dress that existed.  Pink, flowers, ruffles... can't get more feminine than that!  Scored this dress on the sale rack for only $5.00!  To offset the soft, feminine nature of the dress I added a black fedora and my new oxfords!  These are not the oxfords I purchased online (See: Dorky Yet So Adorable!), I actually found them at Ross for $12.  I am now obsessed with oxfords...they are sooo comfortable!  There are currently three pairs happily sitting in my closet and they are just too cute for words!  The jewelry I kept simple, although not in my nature, this outfit is pretty busy already.  Just a simple silver chain necklace...I dare not leave my neck completely bare!

This studded belt I've had in my collection for some time, but have never worn it.  Don't you hate when you buy something and when you get home you realize "I have absolutely nothing to wear with this!"  OR  even worse...you don't even like what you bought anymore!  This is often because us women cannot resist one word...SALE!  Due to the fact that I am a repeat offender of buying dumb things that are on sale, I have a rule.  Don't buy it if you wouldn't pay full price for it!  It really works, and saves me from wasting money or having to return things (which I hate doing!).

So I challenge you...use your inner Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this week and wear an outfit that totally contradicts itself!  Send me your pics if you like!
