Shades Of Grey

September 24, 2010 9:45 pm · Posted by sassysweetheart

I love a monochromatic look!  The key to pulling it off, is by doing different shades of the same color.  It is best to use neutrals like grey and brown.  An all yellow ensemble will just make you look like a banana...or Big Bird!

This outfit is all kinds of comfortable!  Super soft pants...kind of sweatpant-like, a slouchy tee, and a tailored boyfriend blazer that pulls it all together.  I am LITERALLY obsessed with slouchy sweat-like pants.  They are the best thing EVER!  Once you try them, there is no turning back!

Ahhh, nothing I love more than a deep pocket I can sink my hands into!

I usually like to be drenched in accessories, but I wanted to stay with the simplistic nature of the outfit.  This Y shaped chain necklace is simple but adds a little pizzazz!  Sometimes, less CAN be more!  Sometimes... :)

Berry Burst

<script type="text/javascript"></script>

My favorite dark skinny jeans paired with a silky, berry colored blouse and neutral blazer!  My job does not require me to dress up, but I like to be comfortable, casual and professional at the same time.  This is the perfect mix of all three!

This is the first time I have worn this necklace, and I have had it for months.  It is a really interesting color.  I couldn't figure out what to wear with it and then A-HA!  A burst of berry went perfectly!

I must apologize for my protruding roots.  Surprise!  I'm not a natural blonde!  Wha-wha-whaaaat?  Haha!  Is anybody anymore?  I have a hair appointment this weekend, so I promise they'll be gone soon.  Now you know why I've been wearing so many hats! ;)

Just Me and My Ray Bans

<script type="text/javascript"></script>

I’ve found that as I get older, the level of comfort I require in my attire is much higher.  Sometimes you just want to be in comfortable flat shoes instead of a heel!  I would love have legs like the models in magazines.  Their legs look a mile long even in flats!  But lets get real.  I am five foot one, and have short legs.  It is incredibly difficult for me to look cute or feel sexy in a flat shoe!  Let’s face it ladies...as soon as we put on those stilettos, our sexy factor jumps up!  There is something about a high heel that just makes you strut!  It is almost impossible not to!

Nevertheless, I am absolutely DIGGING (Are people still saying that? Probably not. Ha) these oxfords!  Do you DIG them too?  They are a little bit odd and old man like (why does everything I wear look old man-ish?), but I adore them anyway!  The chunky heel adds a bit of height to short, little me, and they are super comfortable!

Two words: Ray...Ban...music to my ears!  I love my Ray Bans!  They make me feel cool.

It felt kind of strange taking a picture of my derriere (buttocks, in case you didn't know) but I assure you, it was only to show you the awesome studs on the pockets of my jeans!  I love little details on clothing!

Piled on my arm with a couple of bracelets, there is a watch, which is something out of the norm for me.  I hate wearing watches because someone ALWAYS asks me the time.  I will then proceed to stand there in awkward silence as I try to count the lines on my watch.  It is beyond ridiculous!  Don't get me wrong, I can tell time.  It's just that when the numbers aren't marked, it takes me a little longer than it should!  Maybe a digital watch would better suffice.  The one I'm wearing actually doesn't even work.  It's just for cuteness purposes!  Hey, give me a break...it matches my shoes!

Abstract

Alas!  I have finally purchased a tripod, which I am ecstatic over!  (Thank you hubby!)  It was looong overdue, so I hope you enjoy the new and improved photos.  There are so many cool places where I live to take some nice pictures, and I look forward to sharing them with you all!  I am DEFINITELY no model or photographer, but I am always looking for new ways to improve this site.  Your feedback is greatly appreciated!  So here it goes...

This little romper I bought last summer, but still feel the love for it!  I actually wasn't even sure I liked it after purchasing, but I ended up wearing it many times.  Don't you just LOVE when that happens?  It also goes great with tights and a black blazer for the colder months.  Versatility is my friend!

A cool white blazer dresses it up a little, but with the sleeves rolled up of course.  I always roll the sleeves up on a blazer.  Long sleeves always feel too stuffy!

I'm With The Band

The Fedora Project Part 3...

I don’t know what it is about this hat, but I am utterly obsessed with it!  It kind of makes me feel cool, mysterious, and put together, all at the same time!  Every time I wear a fedora, you know who seems to like it the most?  Little old men!  It’s so completely cute.  I think it reminds them of their day when they used to wear them.  Sometimes, they will tell me, “I have that same hat at home”!  I don’t know whether to laugh or cry!

This outfit I wore to a singing gig with the band that I am in.  The event was a wedding and we had a rockin good time!  The colors we had to wear were black and white, which can be difficult to make look interesting.  I love the combination of these masculine and feminine pieces.  It creates a look that's not too precious!  This dress from H&M I've had for a couple of years and have worn it for so many different occasions.  It has pockets on the sides, which adds a little curve to my shape.  If you are curvy and don't want to add more to your hips, avoid side pockets.  They add extra weight and attract more attention to your hips.  If you need a little extra oomph like me, side pockets create that hour glass shape that you desire!  Any detail on your clothing like a ruffle or ruching is going to accentuate the body part it is on.  So if you have things you want to hide, avoid details that draw attention to them!

Not-So-Denim Skirt

July 26, 2010 2:08 pm · Posted by sassysweetheart

Denim skirts always remind me of when I was 19 and strutting around in Hollister mini skirts. A fun time in my life, but not something I would want to wear now (at age 27... I know, I know... I look like I'm in high school). But alas! There IS a way to wear a denim skirt that is a little more mature or work appropriate. Unless you're are a rockstar (even though we would all love to be one) please don't wear jean mini skirts to work!

This skirt is made by Kensie, usually sold at Macy's for much more than I would spend on a single item, but I scored it at Burlington Coat Factory for 14 bucks! Oh yeeeah! It is actually not denim, but chambray, which is soft and wonderful! Chambray has the appearance of denim, but is so much lighter! Perfect for hot summer weather! You could definitely remove the blazer, trade the heels for sandals, and wear it on a shopping trip. Wear a sparkly top and big earrings, and you are date-ready! This skirt even works in the colder months. Pair it with some tights and ankle boots to keep your legs warm. Then add a sweater with a military jacket, and maybe even a scarf! Ahhhh the choices! I love an item that is so completely versatile!

Take Me Away!

July 14, 2010 12:46 pm · Posted by sassysweetheart

Had a little weekend getaway for my cousin's wedding in Pismo Beach, California. Man, it is GORGEOUS out there! We stayed at the coolest hotel where they had a little golf course, ping pong and this giant chess/checker board. My husband and I, being the competitors we are, played a game of checkers in which I got my butt kicked relentlessly! I have yet to win a game of checkers in all the years we've been together...but I still try my hardest! I must apologize for all the cheesiness in the photos. That's dorkiness in full effect!

I wore this outfit to a casual rehearsal dinner, and afterward, a walk on the beach...hence the rolled up jeans. Of course my ever so faithful hat; basically my bad hair day savior! It covers the worst of all of them! This necklace was purchased at Kohl's, the ultimate go-to accessories store. I found it a tad ridiculous, it is huge, but that has never stopped me before! Being the recessionista that I am, could not pass up the shininess or the bargain...a mere $4.00!

When you are traveling out of town, an outfit like this is a great to bring because it is multi-functional. Add a pair of heels and it can be wore for a night on the town! Take the blazer off, and you have a t-shirt, jeans and sandals! A definite fail-safe option especially when you need to pack light. Do you have any tips for packing light or traveling? That's something we all could use a little help on! Send me your advice and pictures!

Classic With A Twist

July 9, 2010 2:01 am · Posted by sassysweetheart

This is definitely one of my more toned down outfits!  Just a simple white tee and short sleeved navy blue blazer. This blazer goes with practically everything. I love the short sleeves and how it goes in at the waist, creating curves that are not really there!  A prime example on how you can use clothing to your advantage. A fitted blazer is one of my favorite things and a great staple to have in your wardrobe! It is a classic piece that will never go out of style!

Adding a statement necklace and strappy heels dresses up the outfit and creates a more modern look.  Rolled up jeans show off my new current obsession...these ridiculous shoes!  You might see me rocking these quite often.  Don't say I didn't warn you!   **Jeans: Just USA, Blazer: Forever 21, Shirt: Marshall's, Bracelet and Necklace: Vera Wang for Kohl's, Purse: Ross, Shoes: BCBG
